Cooperstown is a delightful, beautiful town to visit and there are more things to do and see in Cooperstown, NY than just the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Cooperstown is a 2,000 population town in central New York State that is most famous for being home to the Baseball Hall of Fame but there are many other fun things to see and do in Cooperstown. The town was founded in 1793 by Judge William Cooper who was the father of James Fenimore Cooper author of "Last of the Mohicans". Cooperstown has done a great job preserving its rich history and there are many other great sites to see and things to do in Cooperstown besides the Baseball Hall of Fame though that is always a fun destination too. National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is located at 25 Main Street. Cooperstown resident General Abner Doubleday helped to invent the game of baseball back in 1839 and the Baseball Hall of Fame helps to preserve baseball's rich history and legacy. The Hall of Fame has a massive collection of baseball artifacts, memorabilia, photos and baseball cards on display. The highlight of the Baseball Hall of Fame is the gallery containing the busts and plaques of the inductees. For more info call 888-425-5633.

Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown

The Fenimore Art Museum is located 1 mile north of town at 5798 Lake Street or State Highway 80 right along beautiful Otsego Lake. The museum houses a large collection of American fine and folk art including a great collection of American Indian Art. One wing in the museum recreates an 18th century Iroquois hunting and fishing camp called the Mohawk Bark House. A must see visit for people who love American art work and Americana. The Farmers Museum in Cooperstown

The Farmers Museum is located at 5775 Lake Road or State Highway 80 almost right next to the Fenimore Museum. This great museum offers visitors a unique look into what life in rural America was like back in the 19th century with over 23,000 objects on hand like butter molds, plows, carriages and farm tools as well as costumed workers to demonstrate how things worked. Glimmerglass Opera at the Alice Busch Opera Theater

The Glimmerglass Opera at the Alice Busch Opera Theater is located 2 miles east of Cooperstown along East Lake Road which is also SH 80. Four separate operas are preformed daily here each summer in the open air theater and fireworks displays also take place here. For more info call 607-547-2255.

Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown

Brewery Ommegang is located just south of town at 656 County Highway 33. This area of New York was the hops capital of America back in the 19th century with 80% of all the hops in the country being grown in Otsego County. At the Brewery Ommegang visitors can see how beer used to be made and free samples are offered. For more info call 607-544-1800.

Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard

The Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard is located 3 miles west of Cooperstown at 288 Goose Street in Fly Creek, NY. This is a fascinating water-powered mill that has been producing apple cider since 1856 and visitors can see how it is done. For more info call 800-506-6455.

Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad

The Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad offers a 16 mile round trip sightseeing train tour in 1928 passenger coaches and an open air gondola that travels between Cooperstown and Milfrod, NY.
